CENTRALIA — Centralia police are actively investigating a shooting incident Friday outside a Centralia grade school. No injuries have been reported and the shooting isn’t believed to be related to the school.
According to Police Chief Brian Atchison, around 12:11 Friday afternoon, Lincoln Grade School contacted the Centralia Police Department and reported that as students were going out to the playground, multiple shots were fired outside the school. All students were taken inside the building and Lincoln, along with Central City Grade School, was placed on lockdown.
Centralia police, along with Central City and Wamac officers quickly responded to the area, securing the school and the streets around the school. Lincoln Grade School is located on North Elm Street between East Rexford and Haussler.
All officers responded to the scene, including Atchison.
Atchison says it appears the shots were fired from a vehicle at pedestrians walking north on East Rexford at Maple, so the shots were fired away from the school. He adds that officers are interviewing subjects and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the police department.
