Last week, members of the Mt Vernon Police Department K9 Division traveled to Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana to test police dogs.

K9 Grim, who is currently assigned to Cpl Rich Johnston, will be retired in the near future so the officers tested dogs to replace Grim.

During the testing, the officers checked the dog’s temperament, drive, agility, and worked the dog in various environments such as on slick floors, dark areas, lighted areas, etc.

After testing approximately 20 dogs, the officers selected an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois that they will introduce later this week.

The new dog will be paid for by money previously seized by Mt Vernon officers as proceeds from drug sales in Mt Vernon.
