A 31-year-old former Centralia woman was sentenced Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to 3-years in the Illinois Department of Correction after she pleaded guilty to a 2014 DUI crash that resulted in the death of Bret “BJ” Henkel.

Brittany Schwanke pleaded guilty to the Class 2 felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence resulting in an accident involving a death. All other pending charges were dismissed.

Court records show the crash happened Nov. 19, 2014, on Illinois Route 37 north of Dix. Schwanke drove a 2005 Ford Focus while under the influence of an illegal substance, and caused the crash that resulted in Henkel’s death.

The court agreed Schwanke could be placed in impact incarceration, also known as “boot camp” if the department of corrections chooses to do so.
