A Jackson County Grand Jury Wednesday indicted 43-year-old Arthur Eckles, Jr. of Calumet City for armed robbery and aggravated battery stemming from a robbery at Circle K, located at 1901 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale on Oct. 13.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr says Eckles, while acting with others, took money and cigarettes from a store employee by threatening the imminent use of force. Eckles was also armed with a handgun.

Eckles is looking at spending six to 30 years in prison on the armed robbery charge. Carr says since a firearm was used in the robbery, an additional 15 years in prison shall be imposed by the court. Eckles could also face four to 15 years in prison for aggravated robbery if convicted.

Eckles is currently in the Jackson County Jail on $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Tuesday afternoon at 12:45.

Eckles was recently arrested by Carbondale Police after the latest armed robbery of a business involved two suspects wearing Halloween masks.
