Clinton County authorities have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
According to reports shared by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, a woman says she was followed Saturday while driving back roads between Breese and Trenton.
The man in question reportedly passed her on multiple occasions only to pull over and stop before doing it again. He ultimately stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road, blocking the woman’s path and told her he was an undercover cop from Trenton.
She asked multiple times to see his identification and he flashed his driver’s license. He never showed her a badge but repeatedly tried to get her out of her vehicle saying he wanted to perform a sobriety test on her.
She refused to get out of her vehicle without seeing his identification and he eventually let her go. She told authorities she could identify the man and on Tuesday she identified a man who had already been booked into the Clinton County Jail on unrelated charges.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who had been stopped under odd circumstances in Clinton, Madison or St. Clair counties to contact local law enforcement.
