BENTON — Two Benton businesses want the Benton City Council to revisit the city’s Sunday liquor sales ordinance.
Officials with Joe’s Pizza and La Fiesta addressed the council at Monday’s meeting saying both businesses are losing money to other communities that don’t limit Sunday liquor sales to just 12 times a year.
Carlos Hernandez, with La Fiesta, told the council West Frankfort has not had any alcohol-related issues on Sundays since adopting a new ordinance. La Fiesta has a location in West Frankfort. The city allows for six Class D restaurant liquor licenses at $800 per year. Businesses holding this license can sell alcohol on Sundays between 1 and 6 p.m. That’s according to the Benton News.
Jake Betts, with Joe’s Pizza says just over one percent of his total business comes from alcohol sales while 10 to 12 percent of La Fiesta’s total business comes from alcohol sales.
City leaders say they will take what the two men said and come to a decision sometime in the near future.
