MT. VERNON — An Energy man facing charges for allegedly driving under the influence of cocaine had a motions hearing in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday.
25-year-old Cole Stevens is accused of killing 18-year-old Emma Caserotti of Mt. Vernon while allegedly driving under the influence of cocaine. Stevens faces a Class 2 Felony charge of aggravated DUI causing death, a Class 4 Felony charge of aggravated DUI causing bodily harm, and a charge of driving under the influence.
The crash also caused great bodily harm to 18-year-old Tristen Sharp.
According to Illinois State Police reports, Stevens was driving northbound on Interstate 57 near Big Muddy Correctional Center in Jefferson County on June 11. His vehicle crossed the median and crashed into Caserotti’s southbound Jeep.
Stevens attorneys filed a motion to reduce his bond from $250,000 to $30,000 last week, but the motion was denied. Stevens will have a pretrial hearing on Aug. 23 at 9:30 a.m.
