(MT. VERNON, IL) — Authorities arrested a 20-year-old Mt. Vernon woman for striking and strangling a child. Takia T. Bell faces multiple felony charges for allegedly striking and strangling a child under the age of 13. Bell was formally charged January 26 with felony charges of aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated assault, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting a peace officer. On January 21, Bell caused great bodily harm to a child by striking the child about the face and left ear and caused additional injury by allegedly strangling the child. The arrest report indicates also that Bell allegedly walked toward a police officer while holding a knife at her side and would not drop the knife after being commanded to. Bell is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center on a $250,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for February 7.
