(MT. VERNON, IL) — A Jefferson County jury is scheduled to be seated today for the mental fitness trial of a 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged with multiple felonies for alleged sex acts committed against two children. The defense attorney for Charles Mick requested a mental fitness evaluation of his client in August, but now disagrees with the findings of that evaluation, so a six-person jury is scheduled to be selected today to determine if Mick is fit to stand trial. Mick is charged with three Class X counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and three Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13. According to court information, the charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Illinois State Police. The investigation showed Mick committed the sex acts against one victim between March 21 and March 27, 2015, and against another victim between 2006 and 2009. Mick, who was arrested on the charges in July 2016, remains in the Jefferson County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.
