(Wood River, IL) — An iconic business in Wood River is closing its doors after nearly 100 years. Wood River Hardware is the city’s oldest business, but owner Keith Tite says he’s been looking forward to retirement and it’s time to make the move. Tite’s family purchased the store in the 1960s. He’s been running it for the last 22 years. He says it’s hard for independent stores to compete with the big box stores, and sales have declined over the years. It’s expected Wood River Hardware will close for good in the next couple of months.
