(MT. VERNON, IL) — A 27-year-old Mt. Vernon man is scheduled for a final pre-trial hearing today in Jefferson County court, in connection with two armed robberies in Mt. Vernon. Thomas Rector is charged with two Class X counts armed robbery in connection with the January 16, armed robbery of Jumpin’ Jimmy’s in Mt. Vernon. Rector is also charged with one Class 4 felony count of obstructing justice, for allegedly providing false information to the police during their investigation of the robbery. Two other men have been convicted and sentenced for the Jumpin’ Jimmy’s robbery and others. Denzal Haynes was sentenced in July to 21 years in prison, and 27-year-old Steven Collier was sentenced to 14 years in June. Per his plea agreement, Collins has agreed to testify against Rector. Rector was initially arrested on the obstruction charge, posted bond, and was released from jail He was then indicted in July on the armed robbery charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The Mt. Vernon Police Department then put out an appeal to the public for help in locating Rector, who was taken into custody in September.
