(HARRISBURG, IL) — A Harrisburg doctor charged with the murder of his estranged wife and attempting to hire someone to kidnap the Saline County state’s attorney is seeking a change of venue. Attorneys for Brian Burns filed documents with the court last week citing a tremendous amount of media coverage of the cases against Burns. Burns, who was already facing charges of first degree murder and concealing a homicidal death for shooting to death his estranged wife Carla, burning her body and scattering her ashes. He was then charged in a separate case with solicitation, conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping and attempted aggravated kidnapping. Bail for Burns has been set at $10 million. His attorneys have asked for bail to be reduced, saying since their client lost his job as a doctor at the local hospital, he does not have the means to pay $.1.1 million bond. They have also noted their client’s failing health. Burns has reportedly been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, and allegedly cannot receive treatment while in custody. The cases will be tried separately, with a special prosecutor called for the latest case.
