(Cahokia, IL) — Crews working on an expansive levee improvement project near Cahokia are claiming they’re 85-percent of the way to completing the job. The installation of underground drainage pipes to control seepage is intended to make the levees able to withstand a one-hundred-year flood. After the work is done sometime next year, planning work will begin on making the levee system capable of holding up against a five-hundred-year flood.
