(BENTON, IL) — A Dahlgren man was arrested following an investigation into a hit and run crash that happened early Sunday morning in Franklin County. According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened on Illinois 14, five miles east of Benton. Forty-two-year-old Michael J. Rawls was charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash, driving too fast for conditions, operating an unsafe motor vehicle and failing to give information. Rawls was driving a pickup truck east on Illinois 14 that attempted to pass a tow truck going east that was turning south off of Illinois 14 when the pickup went into a skid due to icy conditions and struck the tow truck. Rawls initially stopped, but then fled the scene. He was later taken into custody without incident at his home.
