(MARION, IL) — Three people were injured in a traffic crash around 7:30 Monday morning just west of Marion. According to Illinois State Police, 46-year-old Richard Holmes of Murphysboro was driving his pickup truck east on Route 13 east of Briggs Road and was traveling ahead of a car driven by 19-year-old Dana M. Dunham of Marion. As Holmes reduced speed for an approaching traffic signal, Dunham failed to slow down and struck Holmes’ truck in the rear. Dunham suffered major, incapacitating injuries and was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center and later flown to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. A passenger in Dunham’s car, 18-year-old Chuckale L. Stewart of Marion, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center. Holmes suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene. There were all wearing seatbelts. Two lanes of IL Rt. 13 were closed for approximately 30 minutes. Dunham was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
