(SALEM, IL) — A 21-year-old Marion man was sentenced Wednesday in Marion County Court to 6-years in prison after he pleaded guilty in two separate felony cases against him. Keenan Parson pleaded guilty to Class 3 felony manufacture with the intent to distribute between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis, in exchange for the dismissal of two more serious counts of Class X felony armed violence, Class 3 felony possession of a sawed-off shotgun, Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer. Parson was also sentenced in a separate case to a consecutive 3-year prison term for Class 2 felony aggravated battery of a peace officer. Parson was arrested in October when as a driver he fled from a vehicle involved in a police pursuit in Centralia. Both Parson and his passenger 23-year-old Todd Lee, of Cairo, fled the scene. Parson was quickly apprehended hiding behind a house, and Lee was captured a short time later walking down the street. While searching the area for the subjects, officers reportedly located a 45 caliber handgun and a shotgun they say were dropped during the foot pursuit. More than 150 grams of cannabis, as well as ammunition, were found during a search of the vehicle. Both men were taken to the Marion County jail where he struck a corrections officer in the face and head. Because the second case came after he was charged in the earlier case, the sentences must run consecutively. Lee pleaded guilty to the same cannabis charge earlier this month and was sentenced to 4-years in prison.
