CARBONDALE — A Carbondale man is facing charges related to an aggravated battery that allegedly happened around 4:20 Wednesday morning in the 400 block of James and Thelma Walker Avenue in Carbondale.

According to Carbondale Police, when officers arrived, they found the victim inside the home suffering from stab wounds. The victim was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of serious injuries.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned an altercation took place between two acquaintances, during which the victim was stabbed by the suspect. The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Alphonso E. Higgins, who was located a short distance away and was arrested.

Higgins is charged with aggravated battery as well as two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He is lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Police continue to investigate.
