MOUNT VERNON–The Mt. Vernon City Council was critcized last night for a lack of affordable housing in Southtown. In their regular meeting at the Rolland Lewis Building, the council was reprimanded by leaders for not doing more for housing and for tearing down homes on the city’s south side.

In other business the council had the pleasure of:

Hearing a first reading on an ordinance that would revise rules of public input. The manuever was criticized by residents who opposed limiting the amount of time granted for public speaking.

A resolution was approved to correct an omission of a parcel from the Mt. Vernon Downtown Redevelopment Plan.

Approved an agreement with Phoenix Investments, Inc., to assume possession of the property commonly known as Park Plaza.

A bid for abestos and mold removal was accepted in the amount of $53,500 from CenPro.
