(BENTON, IL) — Benton’s City Attorney was given approval by the Benton City Council at Monday night’s meeting to put together an intergovernmental agreement with the Benton Civic Center to transfer three pieces of city-owned property to the facility. Tom Malkovich says under the agreement, the Civic Center would cover what the city owes on the property for the year, which is $10,500. That includes demolition costs and fees. The property is located on Huddleston Street next to the Civic Center’s property. Malkovich told council members the city won’t make any money or lose any money in the agreement. The mayor, along with Commissioners Don Wyant and Dennis Miller, voted for the agreement while Commissioners Ronnie Baumgarte and Don Storey voted against it. The agreement will be discussed with the Benton Civic Center board in the near future.
