(MT. VERNON, IL) — North 27th Street in Mt. Vernon will be closed to traffic starting Wednesday at 7 a.m. The closure is expected to last several months while the roadway is being rebuilt.  Motorists are asked to take alternate routes such as Wilshire Road, Caroline Street, and Old Union Road.  The Jefferson County Historical Society will be accessible from the south and Old Union Church will be accessible from the east via Old Union Road.  For updates on the project, visit the City of Mt.
