(ZEIGLER, IL) — City officials in Zeigler say replacing all the city’s water pipes is getting close to being finished. The city has spent almost 20 years working to replace pipes that were installed in the 1920s with new plastic pipes. Fire hydrants have also been replaced as well during the project. According to WSIL-TV, the old pipes were breaking almost every day and lime, rock and trash have been going through the pipes into the water people there have been drinking. Work on the pipe replacement project began in 1999 and has been done in sections over time. The city is getting ready to do the last section in town and is working on getting the funds needed to do it. This project is set to be finished in 2020. Once it is done, the city will begin work on its sewer system.
