(SALEM, IL) — A Marion County Court intervened Wednesday on behalf of a standout Orphan athlete, entering a temporary injunction the student sought against the high school and halting the school’s discipline against him. According to records, the court found Deven Toennies would “suffer irreparable harm” if a temporary injunction were not issued against Centralia High School and its discipline against him halted. A temporary restraining order was subsequently issued against the school and putting a temporary stop to the discipline. The order will expire May 28, and a hearing on the TRO is scheduled for May 23 — the day after Toennies will participate in the CHS graduation ceremony, meaning he will no longer be a CHS student. Centralia High School Principal Reid Shipley said the school would not comment on the court case, as it does not comment on student issues.
