(Columbia, IL) — Joe Edwards has resigned as police chief of Columbia as part of a settlement with the city. After 13 years on the job, Edwards was placed on administrative leave in February following unspecified allegations involving a custody dispute with his ex-wife over their two teenage daughters. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department investigated the allegations, and charges will not be brought against Edwards as part of his settlement with the city. Deputy Chief Jerry Paul has been promoted from interim chief to become Edwards’ permanent replacement.
