FRANKLIN COUNTY — One person died in a fatal crash that happened Monday night in Franklin County. Illinois State Police say shortly after 10:30, 37-year-old Kristina L. Johnson of Whittington and 51-year-old Irene K. Biggerstaff of McLeansboro were both driving east on Route 14 near Water Road while a motorcycle driven by 34-year-old William M. Barger of Christopher was going west in that area. Johnson drove into the westbound lane to pass Biggerstaff. While beside Biggerstaff’s vehicle, the motorcycle hit the front of Johnson’s vehicle. Johnson then swiped Biggerstaff’s vehicle. Johnson and Biggerstaff were not injured. Barger was killed in the accident. A passenger in Johnson’s car, 23-year-old Chelsea A. Hayden of Wittington, suffered minor injuries. A passenger in Biggerstaff’s car, 18-year-old Kara L. Biggerstaff of McLeansboro, was not injured. The roadway was closed for four hours for a crash investigation and clean up. Johnson was cited for improper overtaking.
