EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A western Illinois man has pleaded guilty to helping to steal mail for personal information to apply for credit cards. Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Alan Carver of Collinsville pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud. He faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and probation. He will be sentenced in August. Prosecutors say Carver and an accomplice purchased merchandise using the credit cards they applied for under the victims’ names. Charging documents identify Carver’s primary co-conspirator as Jeffrey C. Brown. Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.
