(MT. VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon City Council is set to meet this evening in what is certain to be one of the more well attended meetings in recent memory. On the agenda is the second reading on an ordinance proposing the sale of the city’s water and sewer system to the American Water Corporation. An opposition rally is slated prior to the meeting this evening and there has been much debate within the community since the initial proposal was announced. Also slated for tonight’s meeting, the council will hear bid results for the demolition of six retail properties and bid results for water line materials for the Ambassador Road water main project and a request will also be made to seek bids for electric aggregation. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m.at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.
