The FBI has confirmed that human remains recently discovered in rural Wayne County were those of a Fairfield teen missing since 2014.

Megan Nichols was 15-years-old when she disappeared. According to authorities, Megan was last seen July 3, 2014, when she withdrew money from a local bank while on her bicycle.

When Megan went missing three and a half years ago, authorities said she left her cell phone, which had been wiped clean, and a note telling her mother she would never be happy at home.

Bones were discovered Dec. 26, 2017, in a field south of Boyleston. Those remains were collected by the FBI, who were able to positively identify them as those of Nichols.

Further details are not being released at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing. The FBI and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office continue to ask for the public to submit tips regarding the disappearance of Megan Nichols.
