Two men are in the Jefferson County Jail after they were arrested Thursday by Mt. Vernon police for alleged burglary.

According to MVPD, officers responded just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday to the area of Fourth and Harrison for a report of burglary to a motor vehicle. Officers were informed that two suspects had left the scene on foot.

Officers were able to make contact with one of the alleged offenders in the area and after further investigation, 18-year-old Austin Meyer of Richview Road was taken into custody for alleged burglary to a motor vehicle.

Property taken during the burglary was also seized and Meyer was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the Police Detective Division developed probable cause for a second subject as a result of this burglary.

Around 7 p.m. Thursday, officers contacted 18-year-old Andre Snow of the same Richview Road address as Meyer.

Snow was taken into custody for alleged Burglary to motor vehicle. Snow was also found to be in possession of suspected stolen property and was also wanted on an Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Violation warrant.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains with no bond.
