MT. VERNON — A 50-year-old Mt. Vernon Man was sentenced in Jefferson County Court on Friday for possession of meth with intent to deliver.

Michael Jones received the maximum sentence of 7 years for a class 2 felony. Jones had been found guilty of two counts of felony meth possession. Jones had also been charged with armed robbery for his role in the May robbery of a confidential police source during a controlled drug buy, but was acquitted.

The drug buy that was to happen at Jones’ residence in the 700 block of South 19th Street was overseen by the Illinois State Police/Southern Illinois Drug Task Force. Police had given the victim money to purchase drugs from Jones and that source was robbed while attempting to make the buy. Meth was recovered from the residence.

Jones will get credit for 275 days served and will likely only serve half of his sentence with good behavior.
