An autopsy is planned for today on the body of 27-year-old Brock Scoggins on Mt. Vernon, who died in a single car accident Sunday morning on Illinois 37 North, just south of Franklin/Jefferson County Line Road near Whittington.

A passerby called 911 around 5:15 saying there was single vehicle overturned off the roadway on Illinois 37. It appeared the vehicle was going north on Illinois 37 and failed to negotiate a curve, striking a driveway culvert and overturning. Scoggins was found ejected from the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to the Franklin Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.

Funeral arrangements are being made with the Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

An autopsy is set for today on the body of 21-year-old Andrew John Reese of Mulkeytown, who died in a one-car crash just after 3 Saturday morning. It happened west of Sam Pyle Bridge Road on Illinois 14 in Franklin County.

Reese’s vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a guide wire attached to a utility pole. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop striking a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

A memorial service for Reese will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Christopher. Visitation will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher.
