The Centralia Police Department is investigating an apparent early Sunday morning burglary of a west side store that possibly included the theft of firearms.

According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, Centralia dispatch received an alarm notification around 3:40 a.m. the from Buchheit Home and Farm Supplies store on West McCord Street and responding officers discovered forced entry had been made through the front doors of the store.

Officers from Wamac and Central City responded to assist in setting up a perimeter and Centralia officers entered the store. Once inside, officers reportedly found that several long guns had been taken and returned outside to secure the scene for investigators.

Marion County and Clinton County sherriff’s deputies also responded to assist, with the Clinton County K-9 being used to search the store for suspects.

Atchison says that while suspects had already left the scene before officers arrived, his department is following leads in the case.
