Mt. Vernon Man Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison on Multiple Drug-Related Charges

JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty in Jefferson County court to one of multiple drug-related charges included in multiple cases filed against him this year.

Timothy Boyd was arrested in June by Mt. Vernon police on a theft charge. A warrant was then issued following his arrest charging him with three Class X felony counts of delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine, two Class 1 felony counts of delivery of between 5 and 15 grams of meth, and Class 2 felony possession with the intent to deliver a non-narcotic controlled substance.

The warrant was issued based upon Boyd’s alleged calculated criminal drug conspiracy.

He pleaded guilty last week to the Class 1 felony charge in exchange for the other charges being dismissed, along with charges of Class 3 felony aggravated battery and Class 4 felony criminal damage to government property filed after he had been held for weeks in the Jefferson County Jail.

On the initial arrest for theft, Boyd was charged with Class 3 felony theft. He has also pleaded guilty to that charge and was sentenced to 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay $500 in restitution.

He had remained in jail since his June arrest, with bail initially set at $50,000 on the theft charge. It was subsequently increased to $250,000 after the warrant was issued.
