SALEM, IL — Salem Mayor Rex Barbee will be resigning September 3rd so he can take over as City Manager, replacing current and outgoing Manager Bill Gruen. Barbee’s departure will leave open the mayor’s seat, which will be temporarily filled by City Council member Sue Morgan.
Morgan will hold the pro tem position for 60 days while the city council selects a new mayor. They can make their selection from either current council members or another citizen living within Salem City limits.
The replacement mayor would hold office until the 2021 consolidated election.
