MT. VERNON — A 39-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail after being extradited from the Vanderburgh County, Indiana Jail where he’s been held since December.

Victor Serrano was arrested by Indiana authorities last month following a high-speed chase.

A warrant for Serrano’s arrest had been issued in Jefferson County, Illinois accusing him of seriously injuring a pregnant woman in Mt. Vernon, then fleeing to Indiana. Once there, he reportedly led Indiana police on a chase that exceeded 100 miles an hour.

Indiana troopers laid down spike strips to try and stop him, but he reportedly continued until he crashed into a trooper’s vehicle and was arrested.

The Illinois warrant charges Serrano with attempted first-degree murder, attempted intentional homicide of a child, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated domestic battery.

Serrano has been held in the Jefferson County Jail since Sunday, awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
