MT. VERNON — Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the Mt. Vernon Branch of the NAACP held their annual banquet Monday afternoon to honor him.

Dr. Wendell Anthony, a current member of the NAACP’s National Board of Directors and long-time president of the NAACP’s largest chapter in Detroit, Michigan was the keynote speaker at the event that honored what would have been Dr. King’s 90th birthday. Anthony says there is much more to Dr. King than him “having a dream.”

Anthony told those in attendance that the struggle for an equal and better life for everyone is fight for all people, of any racial or ethnic background, to come together for the good of the people.
