JEFFERSON COUNTY — After an EMT fell ill while transporting an overdose victim Thursday afternoon, Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard is warning the public about the dangers of fentanyl.

The DEA reports that fentanyl is 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine. It is often added to or disguised as heroin and often results in overdose deaths.

Bullard says it doesn’t take much second-hand exposure to fentanyl to have deadly results.

Fentanyl can be ingested, dissolved in the mouth, absorbed through the skin, smoked, or injected.
