MARION — A 25-year-old Marion man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 3-month-old infant son Friday.

According to the Marion Police Department, Devin A. O’Daniell was arrested on charges of domestic battery, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery to a child.

Around 9:39 p.m. Friday, November 23, Marion police responded to a dispute on Meadowland Parkway, in which a female was reporting that her child had been abused.

Upon the officer’s arrival, the mother had already left to take the 3-month-old baby to Heartland Regional Medical Center. O’Daniell, the baby’s father, was located walking away from the area and was transported to the Marion Police Department.

The baby was transported to Cardinal-Glennon Children’s Hospital where he passed away 4:04 p.m. Monday.

The case is under review by the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office and is still being investigated by Marion police with the assistance of the Southern Illinois Child Death Task Force, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

The mother asks that the family’s privacy is respected during this distressing time.

The baby’s mother wants the public to know her baby’s memory is being honored by donating his organs which will go to save two other children and one adult through Mid-America Transplant in St. Louis.

An honor walk was held Tuesday to the operating room with her baby to harvest the organs.

She wants people to know that even though his death may have been tragic he will be living through others and saving lives.
